A Story, and a Song

Come with me to a most magical place,
where the spectacular is as well commonplace,
where the land robots roam
and drug-addled dub-ravers are showered with foam
from a cannon.
Where you never eat so well in your life,
or so little.
Where things are, as they are perceived
as well as shrouded in riddle.
There, 'tis expected to behold
a fire-breathing robot dog
scorching the bass-heavy earth.
And though shines the sun without mercy
you need not be thirsty,
for the water cannon will keep you cool.
(Though they are scarce concerned
by flaming cars.
No, they let them burn.)
And when the sun sets, darkness brims,
the festivities are tinged with hysteria.
You float about, by chance and whim,
which through human seas carry you.
'Tis a place where eye contact,
sustained for a second or more,
will pull you deep in conversation,
to unvisited, undreamt of shores.
We live out brief lives there,
to earth-shaking rhythms entwined,
sustained by substance,
and whatever we may find.
